About the directory

How listings are made and checked.

The suppliers directory is a free list of the wholesalers, distributors and supply houses that sell to businesses across Massachusetts, from seafood and produce to plumbing, electrical and packaging. It is for the owner or buyer looking for who supplies what, and how to open an account.

Where listings come from

Every detail on a supplier's page has a source and a date, shown under "Where this comes from". There are four kinds: a phone call with the supplier; the supplier's own website; Overture Maps open data, used under the Community Data License Agreement, Permissive 2.0; and the 495/MetroWest Supply Chain Directory, a public, grant-funded directory of the region's suppliers, credited with a link wherever it is the source.

From another directory we take only facts: the name, the address, the website, what a business sells and who it sells to. Never its descriptions, ratings or photos, and never anything from Google.

What "verified by phone" means

A listing is marked verified only after we have called the supplier and confirmed its details with them: the address, the towns they deliver to, their order cutoff and minimum, and whether they are taking new accounts. The date of that call is shown on the listing. Until then the page says it has not been confirmed, and "How to buy from them" stays empty rather than guessed.

Phone numbers and emails

We keep each supplier's phone number and email for our own calls, but the directory doesn't publish them. Each page says whether one is on file, and links to the supplier's website, where most of them list how to reach their order desk.

Nobody pays for a spot

Listing is free. No supplier can pay to be listed, to be marked verified, or to appear higher. Results are sorted by name, by town, by distance or by when they were last verified, and nothing else.

In Spanish

The whole directory is also in Spanish, at /es, and search understands Spanish words: "mariscos", "carne" or "verduras" find the same suppliers as "seafood", "meat" or "produce". Business names, addresses and product lists stay as the suppliers write them.

Who runs it

Run by CodeBrewLabs, maker of Syncventory. The directory is separate and free, and no listing in it pitches software.

Correct or remove a listing

Every supplier page has a “Something wrong here?” box. Use it to send a correction or to ask for a listing to come down. A person reads each one, and a supplier that asks to be removed is removed.
